What Is a San Antonio Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Bond?

A contractor hired to work in the city of San Antonio on public areas such as sidewalks, curbs, or gutters, must purchase a surety bond in the sum of at least $2,000. By providing this bond, the contractor is promising to furnish all the proper tools and materials to execute, construct, perform, and complete the work they have been assigned. This contractor and his employees bind themselves to the understanding and adherence to all City of San Antonio Codes and regulations pertaining to their work.

The bond is in effect as soon as the work begins and remains intact for one year after the completion of work. During that year, the work constructed must remain in serviceable condition, including being free of cracks, breaks, undue wear, disintegration, or other defects that could impair the permanence of the work. The director of building inspections will deem if any expansion, cuts, or cracks are the result of poor workmanship on the part of the contractor or for some other reason, in which case, the contractor would not be held liable.
